Maverick Yachts, founded by Rudi Pretorius, have been building premium world class, live onboard cruising catamarans since 2007.
When COVID hit, reaching customers at international boat shows became impossible due to the travel bans. However, at the same time, South Africans who loved to travel abroad rediscovered their own country. This created a new niche market for luxury Overlanding with all the comforts of home.
With his love and passion for the great outdoors, Rudi added the Overlander Campers to their production as a natural step to retain the already skilled staff in his employment, whilst maintaining the high standards of build. This time, instead of “over the sea”, these vehicles were innovated for “over the land” – hence the birth of the OVERLANDER.
Rudi, who is still at the helm of the enterprise, further jokes that: “Where does a boat builder go on holiday? To the bush, as far away from the ocean as possible.”
